The Science

Cold therapy can be traced back to Hippocrates who used it in ancient Greece to treat pain and Inflammation. The word cryotherapy’s translation from it original Greek is cold cure. Acting as an anti- inflammation agent, cold therapy was used to treat an array of issues since the beginning of recorded medical treatments.

Whole Body Cryotherapy originated in Japan in the 70’s, when Rheumatologist Dr. Yamaguchi used cryotherapy to manage the pain of his arthritic patients. He discovered that short exposure to low temperatures on the skins surface lead to a release in endorphins that dulled pain sensory, and reducing inflammation. His localized treatment research lead to the same theory being applied to the entire body at extreme temperatures.

Eventually with the success of these treatments cryogenic chambers began developed across the European and Asian Continents. Whole Body Cryotherapy was successful in treating patients with chronic inflammatory afflictions and in competitive athletic training (including the Russian and Chinese winning Olympic teams.
